Readying yourself for a Valentine’s date, or any date for that matter, requires you to prim and prepare before donning your duds. A key part of the preparation will be finding somewhere to dine or even arranging a weekend away, but you’ll also want to sharpen up your look for this special occasion.
Your regular routine for grooming will hopefully include taking care of your skin, by knowing the importance of moisturising, and you should be taking regular steps to keep your barnet bearable with a trim.
But because (provided all goes well) there will be a lot of close-ups during your evening out, your pre-date decisions can go one step further.
Here we’ll be getting to grips with the best grooming products to help you cultivate a couture look.
Once you’ve selected your suit, or equally appropriate attire, and had a good steam in the shower, you’ll want to start banishing your bristles with a good shave. Or, if you’re a keeper of a manly mane, trimming and styling your beard.
Prepare your skin before shaving by using Taylor of Old Bond Street Jermyn Street Pre-Shave Gel. This reputable primer is paraben free, meaning it’s safe for even the most sensitive skin. Apply by lightly massaging the gel into the skin before applying shaving cream. The healing aloe vera and witch hazel in the gel will moisturise your face and help you avoid any nasty nicks or cuts.
For the bearded lads thinking they get to skip this step - you’ll still need to tidy up your tache or bushy beard by styling away any stray strands. The Brighton Beard Company’s Moustache & Beard Wax is perfect for this job as it combines shea butter and beeswax, allowing you to shape and sculpt your beard and moustache without drying them out.
If you are looking to go on your date neither fully bearded nor clean shaven we’d suggest you rethink your approach. Few men can sport a three day stubble and pull off a truly handsome and rugged look. Save it for a bit later in the relationship - or try it out on a casual movie date instead.
For the final touch, go for hair that looks tamed but not over-styled. We love Joe Grooming’s Grooming Compound. This moldable paste is ideal for every man’s hair as it controls and supports the hair without causing product build up. Rub a small amount in your fingertips to warm it, then work into the roots of your hair.
Before heading out, remember that nothing invigorates the senses as much as an attractive cologne. Arriving for your date wearing a subtle fragrance will be a tantalizing treat for your Valentine’s date and if you get it really right, will turn heads.
Colognes are powerful essences that come in small bottles for a reason, so use them sparingly. Don’t smother yourself in splashes of musky aftershave. Instead spray small amounts onto your neck and wrists.
We suggest applying a few spritzes of Sothys Eau De Toilette Intense, a robust and sensual cologne. If you prefer something lighter (and are clean shaven), then consider applying D.R.Harris Arlington Aftershave Milk just after you’ve shaved. This tincture soothes the skin and leaves a refreshing citrus and fern aroma. Apply a good amount to all the areas you’ve shaved, allowing it to dry naturally.
While we’ll leave the finer details of your Valentine’s date to you, with flowers, a well researched restaurant and some old fashioned charm, you’ll be glad you’ve invested in our Bodhi & Birch Bath & Shower Therapies to revitalise your body and mind after a lovely evening.
If the wine’s been free-flowing and you’re feeling a little run down the day after, use The Mint Thé Bath & Shower Therapy to rejuvenate and resuscitate. Or try Bodhi & Birch’s Rosemary Chi Bath & Shower Therapy. The combination of geranium flower oil, virginia cedar and tea tree will rebalance the mind and sharpen the senses.
Both therapies can be used as a wash in the shower, lathering small amounts into your body and hair, or they can be enjoyed as part of a relaxing bath--perhaps for two! Use plentifully.
