5 Top Tips For Men With Thinning Hair And Receding Hairlines
As men we want to keep our locks as thick as possible for as long as possible and it's only natural to feel slightly self conscious when our hair starts to thin or recede.
Most of the time it's down to our DNA and there's not a lot that we can do about it once it's too late.
The best thing to do is not to worry about it, you're not the first and certainly won't be the last to start thinning or begin to lose your hair.
But there are things you can do however to make the most of the hair that you do have when your hair begins to become thinner. Here's 5 of them..
Take Your Sides Shorter
When you have thinning hair as a man the worst thing you can do, if you don't want it to notice, is to go for an even length cut all over. When you do this, it makes it a lot more obvious that the hair on top is receding or thinning. So take your sides down shorter and leave a bit of length on top, this will distract from the fact that the hair on top is finer and draw our eyes to the sides.
Texture Is Your Best Friend
Slicked, smarter haircuts are never the best idea for men with thinning hair. The more precise and perfect the hair is meant to look, the more the fact that the hair is thinning will notice. Get your barber to add texture through your hair, and wear messier and less directional styles. Be careful though not to get your hair "thinned out", this is not a good idea for thinning hair - you want to keep as much thickness in it as you possibly can.
Don't Saturate Your Hair With Product
When you have thinning hair, you don't ever want the hair to be weighed down if you don't want it to show. That means not saturating the hair with lots of product - so use product sparingly and apply evenly throughout the hair. If your hair is receding at the front you don't want your hair to have more product in the front than the rest, so make sure you get it through evenly.
Use Matte Products
While we're on the subject of products, you want to use matte products over high shine products. Like we've said already, messier textured styles are going to be your best friend, and high shine high hold products are more likely to be used for slicked and perfect hairstyles. Not only that but matte products are often lighter, meaning they won't weigh the hair down as much as say a pomade. Use a matte finish clay like the Regal Gentleman Matte Clay.
Embrace It Or Get Rid
If your hair is just slightly thinning or fine then you'll easily get away with the tips above, but if your hair has got to the point of no return and you're self conscious about it then really you have two choices - embrace it or get rid.
You're not the only one to go through it and won't be the last and many men, like Jude Law, have chosen to embrace what they have and use it to their advantage. While on the other hand a lot of men are shaving their hair off for ultra short buzz cuts in 2018 anyway, so either way you'll be fine!
There are also plenty of treatments out there for men, like supplements and hair transplants. But always do thorough research and consult a professional before undertaking anything like this. And always remember, prevention is better than cure so always follow steps to delay or stop your hair from thinning as quickly as it might do. Unfortunately for most of us, we don't consider the consequences until it's too late!
